**NDP NEWS RELEASE**

In the House of Commons, Canada’s New Democrats are pushing for accountability from the Trudeau government regarding an ongoing breach of promises to veterans. It has long been a common practice for the federal government to announce and re-announce spending commitments to veterans. However, if the money isn’t spent in the calendar year, it is often recycled back to government coffers. An NDP Motion will end this accounting sleight of hand.

Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus says government continually overpromises and under delivers to veterans and their families.

“When soldiers signed up to serve their country they didn’t read the small print but they had a right to believe their government would do the right thing by them. Instead, government claw backs and broken promises continue year after year. If funds have been allocated to help veterans, then it better damned well be spent on veterans.”

Speaking in the House of Commons today, Angus pointed out that the rip off of veterans includes a recent finding that veteran pensions were shortchanged by $165 million.

“The rip offs have to end. It’s as simple as that. Veterans deserve better.”
