**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police Service is issuing a reminder to local motorists regarding National Bus Safety Week which runs from October 22nd to October 26th for 2018.

National School Bus Safety Week is an active and evolving public education program and an excellent way for parents, students, teachers, motorists, school bus operators, school administrators, and other interested parties – to join forces and address the importance of school bus safety.

Timmins Police Traffic Sergeant Tom Chypyha states that ”The program is focused on promoting school bus safety so that motorists are made aware of their responsibilities when it comes to enhancing the safety of students who ride on school buses to and from schools in our area on a daily basis. Timmins Police Service – Traffic Section officers will be paying extra attention to school buses stopped with their flashing lights and STOP arm deployed to ensure that surrounding traffic is in full compliance.”

Students and their parents are counting on all motorists to exercise patience and good judgment when meeting or coming upon a stopped school bus. A child’s safety is more important than skirting the laws that apply under the Highway Traffic Act.
