tragicallyhip_fundraiser_MATimmins is hopping on the Hip bandwagon by live broadcasting the Tragically Hip’s last show.

The final concert is set for August 20th in Kingston and is already be broadcasted by the CBC but the city wanted to offer what other communities have doing for this once in a lifetime event.

Tourism Timmins is partnering with the McIntyre Coffee Chop to host the concert at Participark with two massive inflatable screens and five big screen televisions.  Two massive tents normally used for the Kayak Festival are being used as a family area and licensed tent. The Coffee Shop will be providing food and while is it a free event, owner and two-time cancer survivor, Judy Duciaume says it’s about raising as much money as they can for a worthy cause.

“There are many families in our community who struggle to keep their loved ones alive with cancer treatments. Unfortunately the struggle doesn’t end there, they could suffer from profound financial difficulties as a result of these treatments.”

The money raised that night is being donated toward cancer research and Duciaum is hoping to see a massive crowd show up.

“Timmins as a community, when we pull together, we can really make some waves, we can really makes some cash.  There is a lot of families who need our hep and support.”

As mentioned earlier, the event is free but tickets will be handed out at various community events leading up to the broadcast.  Live music will kick off the event at 6 pm.m and close the night out around 2 a.m.
