Door-to-door solicitors continue to stir complaints

While the City of Timmins and the Timmins Police Services issued media releases in late April regarding resident concerns with door-to-door sales, staff have recently been receiving more calls.

City staff wish to advise the public once again that the businesses have no affiliation with the Corporation of the City of Timmins. These businesses are required to provide liability insurance to the Corporation, proving business legitimacy, and purchase a business license in order to operate within City limits. Sales agents are also required to provide identification and clear criminal background checks when purchasing the license.

Some residents have advised that sales agents are claiming to be affiliated with the City when presenting their identification. We wish to advise residents that any documentation provided with the City of Timmins logo or name is the business license, and does not serve to endorse the company or its representatives. Others have reported the sales agents are informing them there are issues with water quality through the municipal drinking water system.

City of Timmins Public Utilities Operators conduct routine water quality testing. Sampling is done both from the plant and the distribution system to ensure safe, high quality drinking water to our residents. The samples also go through accredited labs and are regulated through the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and the Porcupine Health Unit.
