The Timmins Police Service has completed its investigation into a Cherry Street residential fire which occurred on July 3rd, 2016.

Based on the comprehensive investigation undertaken by the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) of the Timmins Police Service, Clayton DE SOUSA, 25, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • one count of Arson With Disregard for Human Life contrary to section 433(a) of the
    Criminal Code of Canada

DE SOUSA was arrested yesterday by the Timmins Police Service and remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins.

The residence, valued at approximately $170,000, was occupied at the time of the fire.

It was completely destroyed in the deliberately set fire.

A family with young children was displaced as a result of the blaze.

The scene has been released by the Timmins Police Service.
