Tourism Timmins, in partnership with DJ Taz and title sponsors, James Toyota, la Caisse populaire de Timmins and Tim Hortons will be launching the 8th annual Summer Concert Series on June 28th from Gillie’s Lake from Stage 2 of the Stars and Thunder Festival.

Following the launch of Summer Concert Series, this musical event will feature local talent or musicians with a connection to Timmins every Wednesday starting July 5th to August 30th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm from the beautiful Schumacher Lion’s Club McIntyre Park and the newly constructed Goldcorp Pavilion.

In addition, four concerts are scheduled for Bannerman Park on Thursday July 13th and July 27th as well as August 10th and August 24th thanks to the generous support received from Goldcorp, Lakeshore Gold / Tahoe Resources, Tisdale Plumbing & Heating, East End Service Centre, Porcupine Home Hardware, Stinson Funeral Home, Norfab Metal and Machine Shop, South Porcupine Athletic Club, Knights of Columbus South Porcupine Council, McDonald’s Pharmacy, Porcupine Insurance Brokers, McIntyre Coffee Shop, and Roztek.

Summer Concert Series 2017, will feature 41 performances of different genres including blues, big band, country, rock, pop, progressive rock, adult contemporary, alternative and symphony from McIntyre Park and Bannerman Park.
A voluntary admission of non perishable goods is encouraged again this year in support of both the Timmins and South Porcupine food banks. To date more than 40,000 lbs. of food has been collected during the Summer Concert Series.

According to Guy Lamarche, Manager of Tourism & Events for the City of Timmins, “It’s not surprising to see so many musicians apply to be considered for this year’s lineup. There is a huge appetite from the community, and obviously from the musicians for this event. The generous corporate support from so many dedicated businesses is commendable and has allowed us to hire a minimum of 2 bands per week with some weeks seeing three performances.

Just as importantly, the generous support has allowed Tourism Timmins and DJ Taz to grow the event and too provide artists with a venue and audience where they can share their artistic and musical talents.”

“Last year, the Summer Concert Series attracted thousands of people to Hollinger Park and Bannerman Park thanks in large part to the local media support that the event receives each year. We expect much of the same this year. ” added Mayor Black.

“The public call to action inviting musicians to submit an application resonated with artist from Timmins and beyond,” continued Lamarche, “I expect that the visiting bands will attract residents from their respective communities and elsewhere to the Summer Concert Series and this will generate incremental business for the hospitality and retail sectors.”

“Last year, we saw many visitors from neighboring communities coming to Timmins each week because of the Summer Concert Series. Summer Concert Series is a great opportunity for our accommodation partners to develop and promote a shopping/concert getaway to Timmins, something that could attract a greater number of visitors from neighboring communities.”
