Handi Transit service is expanding to the Victor M. Power Airport.

City Councillor, Joe Campbell says people with disabilities had no reliable way to get to the airport.

He says some taxi services no longer offer the option for a disabled person.

The inclusion of the Airport kicks in immediately with Phase Two expansion to the Kamiskotia HWY and Hallnor Rd coming June 1st.

Municpal Accessibility Advisory Committee Chair, Jim Chalmers says the continued expansion is in mayor and council’s hands now.

“It is the goal of the MAAC to ensure all persons with Accessibility issues be provided with the accommodations necessary to level the playing field in every way. In saying that, and in keeping with AODA compliance standards, the end goal would be to have Handy-Trans service available to all citizens in our community that require it. Recognizing this we believe the current pilot project should be continued to Phase 11 and Phase 111. Without continuing with the pilot project we will not get a clear indication as to whether there will be a need for additional resources to service the area. It is important to remember that the pilot project trial is only a trial and persons accessing the service in the pilot areas have to understand that it is only a trial”
