Complaints are piling high for Hydro One.

Ontario’s Ombudsman Andre Marin says his office received 7,900 complaints for unfair billing and for threats of cutting off power in the middle on winter, if bill weren’t paid right away.

“Hydro One promised us it would not cut anyone off but that’s not what it told families calling us in tears.  They would have no power if they didn’t pay this outrageous bill.”

MPP Gilles Bisson says people worst fears are coming true.

“My constituency office has received hundred of calls, either they didn’t get their bill or it they got one a lot higher than it should have been. People fought and are still fighting these charges.”

Marin says Hydro One admitted to him, they used to cut-off tactic to coax people into paying their bills faster even if the dead of winter. Bisson adds, Hydro One has a policy not to cut off power in the winter months.

The government utility has since told the Ombudsman, it will stop disconnection notices
