street signs

The city’s new welcome signs are gearing for a grand entrance.

Clearlogic Consulting’s Maggie Mattear says they’re hoping to have the signs manufactured by May and installed soon after but it’ll be tricky.

“We have to get boulders and Goldcorp has agreed to help us with that. We’ll have to add concrete posts and make sure the signs are on a sound foundation.

“The first two signs will be on highway 101.  One near the Shania Twain sign and the other by the Kamiskotia highway turnoff. The Chamber of Commerce is also raising money for three more signs.”

Mattear adds, the signs would be placed along highway 655, near the airport, and at the highway 11 turnoff.

Rogers, through Q92  General Manager Art Putlz, donated $10,000 to the cause with the price tag for one sign being nearly $40,000.

The city is also ordering new flags and banners and Mattear is hoping the local businesses embraces them by flying them.

“They’ll feature a greeting in English, French and Cree and we’re hoping to see them at all the arenas, businesses with flags, and on
the flag poles in Schumacher.
