**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

DAILY COVID-19 UPDATE FOR WEDNESDAY, MAY 13, 2020

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting the current number of confirmed positive cases is 65, 11 of which remain active. As of yesterday, over 3,835 COVID-19 tests have been completed in our region. For more information, see http://ow.ly/iKpE50zF3Ld.

To date, testing in 9 of the 10 long term-care homes (LTCH) across the district has been completed, for a total of 1,551 tests. Testing has been completed in all 6 of the Emergency Child Care Centres, a total of 50 staff.

Yesterday, the Ontario government extended the Declaration of Emergency under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act until June 2, 2020. (http://ow.ly/A0yg50zF3Lb)

More COVID-19 testing helps make sure that we can start returning to normal more safely. All members of the community with symptoms, even if they are mild or resemble the common cold, are encouraged to call their health care provider or the health unit for a referral to an Assessment Centre. We need to continue to work together to keep reducing the spread of COVID-19! As more businesses open under provincial guidance, stay home as much as possible, limit trips to stores, send only one member per family to run errands when possible, wash hands frequently and maintain a physical distance of 2 metres when in stores. If you are not well, stay home.

Our COVID-19 Information line is open today from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call the toll-free number, 1-800-461-1818, or the PHU office in your community. See http://ow.ly/OYAn50zF3Le for local contact numbers.

Stay well. Stay home. Stay positive!
