**CITY OF TIMMINS NEWS RELEASE**

Some residents of Timmins may have recently received a notice of infraction if unacceptable items were seen in either their waste or recycling carts. The City of Timmins’ Public Utilities and Environmental Services Department has been making efforts to reduce contamination which can result in additional and substantial charges from recycling collectors, and eliminating unnecessary items being thrown in the landfill. Part of these efforts include conducting audits on waste and recycling carts and providing residents with a notice of infraction if there are unacceptable items in either one of their carts.

“We will not be collecting carts should there be unacceptable materials found, and subsequent infractions will result in the removal of their waste and recycling carts,”

Explained Manager of Public Utilities and Environmental Services Scott Tam.

“These residents will be provided with a standard notice of infraction and collection guide. We encourage residents to refer to the Waste Collection Guide, the Timmins Recyclepedia App and the City of Timmins website.”

The auditing process began several weeks ago and will be an ongoing effort to reduce contamination.
