**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

DAILY COVID-19 UPDATE FOR THURSDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2020

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting one new COVID-19 case among residents in the health unit area. This individual is between the ages of 40 to 59, became infected and was tested on October 13, 2020 and remains in self-isolation in the area of Hearst, Hornepayne. Find more information about positive cases in the PHU area.

So far, we have done well as a region, and the PHU is grateful for the ongoing commitment of all community members, businesses, and workplaces. However, we must remain vigilant because COVID-19 is still here. Whether cases are announced in a particular community or not, as we have said throughout the pandemic, we all need to act as though exposure is both possible and probable every day in every community. Waiting for a case to be announced, or for surges and outbreaks is already too late.

To reduce the risk of exposure, we remind community members to continue to follow public health measures:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer,
  • Self-monitor for symptoms,
  • Screen daily before work/school,
  • Stay home and self-isolate if you have any symptoms,
  • Practice 2 metres (6 feet) physical distancing
  • Sneeze and cough into your sleeve/elbow,
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth,
  • Wear a face covering in indoor public spaces,
  • Wear a mask indoors in non-public spaces and outdoors when physical distancing of 2 metres (6 feet) cannot be maintained.

Our COVID-19 Information line is open today from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call the toll-free number, 1-800-461-1818 or the PHU office in your community. Visit this page for local contact numbers.
