The Timmins Rock, traded Vance Meyer to the Elmira Sugar Kings a few days ago, which meant that they would need to find a new back up.

Gavin McCarthy, is a 5’11 wall from Athens Ontario, and spent his last season playing for the U18 AAA Brockville Braves.

McCarthy, put up some pretty attractive numbers, and there’s a good chance he could match or better those numbers this season in the Rock uniform.

In 29 games, McCarthy finished with a 2.39 G.A.A (Goals Against Average) a .922 SV% (Save Percentage) and one shutout.

In addition to the McCarthy signing, the Rock will also have most of their blue liners returning. The Rock have received commitment from Brendan Boyce, Even Beaudry, Zach Fortin, and Eric Moreau. These returning players, will make McCarthy’s and Tyler Masternak’s lives a lot easier.

The Rock, aren’t done putting their puzzle together, and there’s a good chance that more pieces could be added to their puzzle in the next few days. To keep up with new commitments or signings, you can keep an eye on our website or, you can visit the Timmins Rock Facebook page.
