**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

The Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is reporting 1 new COVID-19 case among residents in the health unit area. A female in her seventies was tested at the Timmins Assessment Centre on Sunday, June 21, 2020 and is currently in self-isolation at home. The public health investigation is currently ongoing. The current number of confirmed positive cases is now 67, two of which remain active.

The health unit is mandated through the Health Protection and Promotion Act of Ontario to track and report certain confirmed and suspected cases of diseases, including COVID-19. This means that regardless of whether someone is tested at their health care provider’s office, emergency, their workplace or somewhere else, the health unit is notified when there is a positive result. The health unit then works at following up with the positive individual to monitor their health and identify any other individuals who may be at risk of being infected. The health unit then advises close contacts of their risk of exposure, with the goal of stopping the virus from spreading.

If you are not well, stay home. Wash your hands frequently. Keep physically distant, but socially close. If you’re going to be in an area where physical distancing may be challenging, wear a face covering. Stop the spread.

Happy PRIDE Week! The health of the 2SLGBTQ+ community is important to us and the health unit is a positive and safe space that is welcoming to everyone.
