**PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT NEWS RELEASE**

DAILY COVID-19 UPDATE FOR TUESDAY, JUNE 9, 2020

There have been no new positive cases in the Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) area since May 10, 2020. The total number of confirmed positive cases is 65, 1 of which remains active. For more information, see phu.fyi/coronavirus.

Yesterday, the provincial government announced it is easing restrictions in communities where it is safe to do so, based on trends of key public health indicators such as lower rates of transmission, increased capacity in hospitals, and progress made in testing.

Effective this Friday, the province will increase the limit on social gatherings from 5 to 10 people across the province, regardless of whether a region has moved to Stage 2. All places of worship in Ontario will also be permitted to open with physical distancing in place and attendance limited to no more than 30% of the building capacity to ensure the safety of worshippers.

The PHU advises all residents to continue the public health measures that contributed to this good news. If you are spending time with people outside your household, do it safely: keep 2 metres between yourself and others, or wear a mask where that’s not possible. If you’re sick, please don’t visit and call to get tested. Use proper coughing and sneezing etiquette, wash your hands often, use hand sanitizer, and do not touch your face.

Our COVID-19 Information line is open today from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Call the toll-free number, 1-800-461-1818, or the PHU office in your community. See phu.fyi/offices for local contact numbers.

Stay home if you are not well. Stay safe. Stay positive!
