There are now six games remaining in the regular season and every point matters. The Timmins Rock, were looking for another two points last night and they got them by pulling off a 5-0 win over the Cochrane Crunch.

“We had the puck the entire time, we had them stagnant in their “D Zone”, they didn’t have any clean exits, and you just saw that as the game went on…. It was a great hockey game again. -Timmins Rock Head Coach Corey Beer.

When you see a big zero on the scoreboard, that’s what you call a shutout. Ty Masternak, who played in his 100th career NOJHL game, managed to record his eighth shutout of the season by stopping all of the 12 shots he faced from the Crunch.

“The job “Masty” (Masternak) does in there is absolutely incredible, him and “Vany” (Vance Meyer) they’re so good for us and the records that Ty is breaking here… I’m so happy for him. He’s such an incredible person and a huge part of our team, he’s the back bone of our team.” -Said Corey Beer.

The entire team had a good performance last night and have been good in their last three games. One player that has stood out as of late is Rock Forward Gabby Kioki, who now has four goals in four games. He recorded a power play goal and an assist, and he earned himself the game’s first star!

“It feels really good, I feel like I’m jelling well with the team and it was fun to get the two points tonight. I guess being back home boosts my confidence a lot and knowing I got a good coach to follow as well helps.” -Said Kioki.

He also went on to add that, he hasn’t really put much thought in to his recent goal streak. He’s happy to get the monkey off his back and just tries to be mentally prepared before every game.

Kioki, was used in almost every scenario you could think of last night and that’s mainly because the Head Coach likes what Kioki has been bringing to the table as of late.

“He’s a good two way player, he’s got great creative offensive abilities, he’s been hot lately with a great shot. He brings that nastiness out there.. It’s not that we don’t have it everywhere out there, but he’s just a guy who’s so passionate about playing the game and playing the right way, he’s bought into everything. He’s out there, he’s competing for loose pucks, he’s finishing his checks late in his shift. It’s the small details with him that I’m really impressed with right now. He’s a great kid and doing things really well for us right now.” -Said Beer.

The goal scorers for the Rock were : Evan Beaudry, Gabby Kioki, Tyler Schwindt, Josh Anderson, and Cameron Kosurko.

The game’s three stars were: Gabby Kioki (1), Evan Beaudry(2), and Tyler Gilberds (3).

The Rock, will now have a two game road trip to close out the week and will take on the always challenging Powassan Voodoos on Friday, and will take on the French River Rapids on the following night.

The Rock, have two home games remaining and the next time they’ll be at home will be on Friday February 21 as they’ll host and play the Voodoos for one last time. Tickets for that game are available online at TimminsRock.Com.
