**TIMMINS SKI RACERS NEWS RELEASE**

After a two-day race weekend in Mattawa, the Timmins Ski Racers managed to bring home another six medals to add to this year’s collection. The Home Hardware Classic, now in its 10th year, features a back-to-back giant slalom race over Saturday and Sunday.

A higher speed event, giant slolam features a wider course, typically set at 27 meters gate-to-gate, that sees racers lock into longer race skis, travelling at speeds up to 70 km/h.

At Saturday’s race, U16 Sophie Harterre took gold, securing the fastest time of the combined morning and afternoon runs. U14 Kendra Rusenstrom finished second and U12 Myriam Levesque came in third, securing the bronze medal.

Sunday’s race, which was delayed due to heavy snowfall throughout the night, saw Harterre finish second, along with her teammates, Rusenstrom and Levesque also taking home silver medals in their respective age categories.

“Our athletes continue to perform exceedingly well, despite the poor racing conditions on Sunday,” said Cameron Grant, Head Coach for the Timmins Ski Racers.

“Coming from Timmins, we’re no stranger to changing weather conditions and the racers were well suited to the overnight change.”

At the end of January, a few athletes will travel to the U14 and U16 OCUP in Thunder Bay and Collingwood to represent Timmins on the provincial stage.

“I have nothing but confidence in their performance and know that they will do our hill and our community proud,” said Grant.
