**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

In light of recent complaints received concerning motorized snow vehicle (MSV) operators using or accessing Victoria Avenue in conflict with the recently established expanded usage provisions of the applicable by-law, the Timmins Police Service will be ramping up enforcement efforts in this area.

The recently enhanced usage amendments to the existing by-laws regarding street usage by motorized snow vehicles were quite clearly defined and yet infractions continue to occur. In short, Victoria Avenue and other identified streets where schools are located or border onto to them, are prohibited from access or use by any snowmobile operator.

Enhanced patrols and a firm police presence is set to be undertaken by all platoons and the Timmins Police Traffic Section as well.

In keeping with their due diligence, and the commitment to public safety, a thorough analysis will be completed at year’s end where this issue can be reviewed for public scrutiny to determine whether this trial project should be allowed to continue towards being permanently adopted.

The Timmins Police Service readily applies its trained personnel and significant resources towards the goal of achieving enhanced roadway safety.

Timmins Police Service Const. Darren McGaghran echoes these sentiments by adding “Continuous enforcement efforts in response to such traffic complaint received by the Timmins Police Service are deemed necessary to address this situation. MSV operators who choose to disobey the pertinent by-laws or any section of the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act can expect a firm application of the law. Any MSV operator who takes to prohibited areas or drives in a manner that places himself or others at risk will have their comportment addressed appropriately. The need for these unethical operators to police their own behavior by making lawful and conscientious choices is obvious and falls within public knowledge.”
