The Timmins Rock put up a complete team effort in Sunday’s 5-0 win over the Blind River. The Forwards were skating well, the defense did their job, and Ty Masternak put on a stellar performance.

The first period started off slow, and both teams were feeling each other out for the first 10 minutes of the game, then the Rock began to take over. Karter Renouf, has made an impact since being acquired by the Rock, and is known to have a lethal wrist shot. He went on to open the scoring by ripping one low blocker side. The Beavers were in trouble after that goal, because the Rock had momentum on their side and used it to their full advantage.

David Laroche, has been on a tear ever since he stepped onto the scene here in Timmins, and has established himself as a scoring machine in a short amount of games played. Later in that first period, he would add to his scoring total and cap off a dominant start for the Rock… He wasn’t done there.

To start off the second period, the Rock were short handed, but things would be evened out pretty quickly. The Beavers took a penalty 30 seconds into the period; The Rock ended up with a short power play opportunity, and Laroche would capitalize with a snipe, and put the Rock up 3-0. Two minutes later, Derek Seguin joined in on the fun and would score a short handed goal after receiving a beautiful feed from Josh Dickson.

At that point, the game had completely been taken over by Timmins, and it didn’t look like the Beavers were going to have an answer. Midway through the second period, the Rock get another power play opportunity, and it didn’t seem like they were ever going to score. There were at least 4 blocked shots by the Beavers defense before Riley Robitaille finally put it in.

The second period came to an end and the Rock had a 5-0 lead. Heading into the third, Rock goaltender Ty Masternak had a shutout on the line, and he managed to hold on to it. He earned his third shutout of the season by stopping all 25 shots he faced, which sees him tied with his teammate Vance Meyer on the NOJHL shutout leader board!

When the Rock loss 5-1 to the Hearst LumberJacks on Thursday November 14, after out shooting them 37-20; the Rock knew they had to finish and capitalize on their scoring opportunities, and they did that against the Beavers. They also did it while Toronto Maple Leafs Alumni, Curtis Joseph was in attendance.

Joseph was brought in as part of a fundraiser for the team and it was  a success! The building was packed, the fans were able to get autographs, and the Rock won!

The Rock will now go on a two game road trip this weekend. They’ll visit the Elliot Lake Wildcats on Friday November 22 and the Blind River Beavers on Saturday November 23. Then they’ll be back at home on November 26 to take on the Cochrane Crunch. Tickets for that game will be available online at TimminsRock.Com.
