The Timmins Rock ended their 5 game road trip in Hearst last night and it ended on a positive note. The Rock put together a full out team effort and managed to shutout the LumberJacks 4-0, while allowing only 18 shots on net. Ty Masternak who was in net for the Rock, stopped all of those and earned himself his 10th career NOJHL shutout.

The Rock had three different goal scorers in last night’s contest; Cameron Kosurko scored the games first goal, and that was his sixth of the season. Rock newcomer David Laroche scored two goals which now brings his goal total up to five on the year, and last but not least, Josh Dickson was the third player to get in on the scoring action.

The box score might seem like the game was a run away considering the shots were 32-18 in favor of the Rock, but the LumberJacks had plenty of chances to stay in the game. They had six power play opportunities, and came up empty handed on all of them, due to some solid penalty killing from the Rock. The Rock had two power play chances and didn’t capitalize on them either, but in the end it didn’t matter because they still managed to score three even strength goals and one while being short handed.

The Rock are now back in the winning column, and are back on home ice this Friday to take on the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners, and there is going to be a new but familiar face on the blue line. Timmins native Phil Caron who signed with the Rock before the start of the season, will make his Timmins Rock debut. Caron, made the Sudbury Wolves (OHL) main roster right after the pre season games wrapped up, and has since gone on to play nine regular season games with the team so far. In those nine games, he recorded five points and was a plus three.

Rock fans should be very excited about this move because this adds more defensive stability and depth. But, don’t get too excited because if he ends up putting up a lot of points and playing really well, it’s likely he goes right back up to the OHL. For now, the Rock are back home this Friday with a win under their belt, and they’re getting a defensive asset back on their blue line. Enjoy it and make sure to pack the Mac!
