**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**

The Timmins Police Service is issuing a “Fraud Prevention Advisory” in relation to a possible fraudulent phone solicitation campaign made by persons falsely representing the Timmins Economic Development Corporation.
The TEDC is not engaged in any such activity. Any phone solicitation of this nature is deemed to be illegitimate, spurious, and very likely to have a fraudulent intent.
The public is reminded to verify the legitimacy of any fundraising campaign and not to provide personal banking information to anyone making such solicitations for funds over the phone.
Also, any door-to-door solicitation requires a permit from the City of Timmins that must be provided for proper inspection by the occupant of the residence.
The absence of this permit should cause the legitimacy of the solicitation to be drawn into question.
As well, any instances of aggressive, threatening or menacing behavior from phone solicitors where fraudulent representations are suspected should be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501
The Timmins Police Service remains committed to fraud prevention initiatives and endorses the use of healthy skepticism when any phone solicitation from a suspicious source is received.
