United Way North East Ontario has kicked off their new campaign and introduced their new theme for the upcoming year. It’s #UnIgnorable. This hashtag is being used so that United Way and the community don’t ignore ongoing issues like Poverty, Homelessness, Mental ilness, social isolation, and the lack of support for children and youth.

United Way is not in the fight alone, they receive funding via community donations, and then share it to other local partners like the Anti Hunger Coalition, North Eastern Ontario Children’s Foundation, Living Space, South Porcupine Food Bank, Timmins Learning Center, and March of Dimes Canada, so they too can help make a difference in the community.

“United Way has been a supporter of Anti Coalition Timmins from the very beginning. As an Organization they have helped us grow immensely, we started out with the Good Food Box Program. Their funding allowed us to have part time employees, and with the support of United Way we were really able to see increased access to healthy food for folks in our community.” -said Jennifer Vachon Executive Director of Anti Coalition Timmins

It’s organization like these that receive support from United Way, and benefit from them. United Way would like to continue helping them out, but donations need to keep coming in.

“We are certainly looking at the $300,000 mark, we would like to raise more than that. Certainly we’ve had agencies that applied for funding last year, we’ve had agencies who haven’t received the complete funding they requested, and we hope to do everything we can for these agencies.” -Jennifer Gorman Regional Manager for Cochrane, Temiskaming Districts for United Way North East Ontario.

United Way is hoping that their new campaign draws in more donations in order for them to be able to continue to achieve their goals, the main one… is being a difference maker in the community.
