The downtown core will be flooded with Italian culture this weekend. Festa Italiana is back for another year, and has grown. This years festivities will be a three day event kicking off on Friday with a huge parking lot party starting at 6PM, it’s a licensed event with a 5$ fee, followed by a bocce tournament on Saturday, and a festival filled with fun and a lot of food on Sunday.

Festa Italiana has grown so much over the years, it was officially proclaimed (Festa Italiana Weekend July 26-28) on Wednesday by Timmins Mayor George Pirie.

“In Italy, when they have their festivals it runs for a full weekend. We wanted to have a full weekend. Having it on just the Sunday was fine, but we wanted to be bigger.” -Said Chris Loreto

Bigger is what they wanted, and bigger is what they got! Even though, Rock on the River is on the same weekend; Loreto along with other organizers are not worried about getting a small turn out. On Friday Paul Sebalj will be performing, the bocce tournament is sure to attract, and the food won’t disappoint. This Sunday will mark the third year of the Italian festivities; you don’t want to miss the chance to get your hands on some great food, and you definitely don’t want to miss the chance to take in some Italian culture.

Last year the festival had over 2000 people in attendance, and they’re expecting that number to grow. This year they’re prepared to show Timmins how awesome a 3 day Italian party can be in the downtown core.
