**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS RELEASE**


The Timmins Police Service has charged five local young persons stemming from an incident where a school bus was vandalized and an antique vehicle was set on fire.
The event took place during the early evening hours of Tuesday, May 14th, on private property owned and operated by a Timmins construction company located in the south end of the city. 
An alert off-duty Timmins Police Service officer became aware of the event and followed the group of young persons as they fled the scene. 


Once assisting officers attended to render assistance, the group was arrested and taken into police custody.
The Timmins Fire Department was dispatched to the original scene of the fire.
A school bus has sustained somewhere between $4500 and $5500 worth of damage.
A 1948 Willies Jeep sustained significant fire damage and legitimate estimates of damage or restoration costs for the vehicle have yet to be forwarded to the Timmins Police Service.


As a result of this incident:
– a 13 year old female young person
– a 15 year old female young person
– two 15 year old male young persons
– a 17 year old male young person
have been charged with:
– Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
– Arson – Damage to Property contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The 17 year old male young person faces two additional counts of:
– Fail to Comply with Conditional Sentence (stemming from a previous Criminal Code conviction). 
The 17 year old was held in police custody and had a bail hearing on the morning of Wednesday, May 15th at Provincial Court in Timmins. He has since been released but must attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on June 17, 2019, to answer to the charges laid against him. 
All other young persons charged were released from police custody but must attend at Provincial Court in Timmins on June 24, 2019, to answer to the charges laid against them.
