**KIRKLAND LAKE OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On January 26, 2019, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Motorized Snow Vehicle (MSV) in the Town of Kirkland Lake, Ontario. The MSV accelerated directly towards the officer who was standing outside of the cruiser, the officer had to jump out of the way in order to avoid being hit. The MSV then fled the area. 

As a result of the police investigation, the OPP have charged a local man. 

Alexander BOOTH, age 26, of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, has been charged with the following: 

  • Dangerous Operation, contrary to section 320.13(1) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon, contrary to section 270.01(1)(a) of the CC.

 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, on March 7, 2019.
