**JAMES BAY OPP NEWS RELEASE**


On January 3, 2019, at 10:54 p.m., members of the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of an erratically driven vehicle in the Town of Moosonee, Ontario. 

 Police located the vehicle a short time later and the driver was arrested. The investigation revealed the driver was impaired by alcohol.

 A male youth, 16 years-old, of Moosonee, Ontario, who cannot be identified due to the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with: 

  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration – 80 plus, contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the CC;
  • Young Driver – Blood Alcohol Concentration above zero, contrary to section 44.1(5) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA);
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence, contrary to section 32(1) of the HTA.

 

The accused was issued a 90-day Automatic Drivers Licence Suspension. 

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Moosonee on February 12, 2019. 

Police encourage the public to report anyone who is suspected to be driving while impaired by calling 9-1-1.
