**TEMISKAMING OPP NEWS RELEASE**


At approximately 7:12 p.m., on November 27, 2018, officers from the Temiskaming Shores Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to the complaint of a suspicious vehicle in the City of Temiskaming Shores, Ontario.  

Officers attended the Temiskaming Square Mall, located the vehicle and began an investigation. The vehicle had three occupants, and the officer observed the person sitting in the driver’s seat to be slumped over the steering wheel. Officers spoke to the occupants, and the driver was arrested for Impaired Care and Control of a Motor Vehicle by Drug.   

A search of the vehicle incident to arrest located the following drugs suspected to be: Hydromorph Contin and Fentanyl patches. Officers also located 2 rifles and ammunition in the vehicle.  

The driver was brought to the hospital for further tests.  

As a result of the police investigation, Nancy HAMEL, 49, of the Municipality of Notre Dame Du Nord, Quebec, was charged with:

  •  Transport Firearm, Prohibited Device or Ammunition in a Carless Manner x 4 contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm x 2 contrary to section 92(1) of the CC;
  • Care or Control While Impaired by Drug contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the CC; and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opioid x 2 contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA). 

 

She was released on a Recognizance Entered Into Before an Officer in Charge with a date to attend court in Haileybury, Ontario, on December 11, 2018.  

The investigation is still ongoing.
