In keeping with Crime Prevention Week, the Timmins Police Service is issuing general crime prevention tips

1)Call 911 if you witness a crime in progress or a possible crime in progress or adangerous situation.

2)Anonymously contact Crime Stoppers “See Something? Hear Something? KnowSomething? Contact Crime Stoppers” at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or by texting “Tip201” with your message to 274637 (crimes)

3)Lock It OR Lose It! Secure your vehicles & home

4)Increase street visibility around your house so that neighbors and others can see ifsomeone is in your yard or trying your door locks.

5)If your home looks occupied, your risk of burglary decreases, take all necessarysteps to lessen enticement for criminals.

6)Thieves prefer residents not to be home, so leave lights on, get your mail collected,and take other steps to make it look like someone is home.

7)Thieves like easy pickings, so target harden your home with outside lighting, goodlocks, alarms, and other home protection devices.

8)Reach out, volunteer, and participate in your community so that you know whobelongs in your neighborhood.

9)When you see something suspicious, don’t hesitate to call police – promptnesspromotes prevention.

10)Anticipate likely targets of crime, be observant in your neighborhood, report anythingsuspicious in nature: Crime prevention does not occur randomly, it is the result ofplanning and effort
