You might see a fire truck outside Dailey’s Your Independent Grocer today, but it’s not for any fire or emergency.

The fire truck is parked outside the grocery store so it can be filled, hopefully to the brim, with food donations for the Timmins Food Bank.

The North Eastern Ontario Family and Children’s Services is partnering up with the Timmins Fire Department, the Timmins and Porcupine Food Banks, and Dailey’s Your Independent Grocer to raise funds, food and awareness.

Funds and food donations will be going to the Timmins Food Bank, which is in need of both food and funding with Christmas fast approaching.

NEOFACS representatives are also there to help raise awareness for people in the community to foster for their agency. This week is Foster Family Appreciation Week and NEOFACS Resource Worker, Debbie Boser, says there are lots of kids in child services who need foster homes.

“We have foster parents within our community,” said Boser, “who take children in care into their homes, into their hearts, in order to take care of them while their parents are taking care of whatever issues that they may be facing at the time.”

Boser said child services is especially in need of homes for teens and babies.

The women outside Dailey’s Your Independent Grocer today are hoping to recruit a few new foster parents in the community. They also hope to fill that fire truck to the brim with food and donations for the Timmins Food Bank.

People are welcome to contribute outside Dailey’s Your Independent Grocer, where they can also enjoy a barbecue with hot dogs, hamburgers and refreshments for a donation. Complimentary reusable grocery bags, promoting the need for foster parents in our community, will also be handed out to customers throughout the day. Donations will be taken outside the grocery store until 6pm this evening.
