**TIMMINS POLICE SERVICE NEWS UPDATE**


The Timmins Police Service has developed policy in regards to the recreational use of cannabis by its members, civilian and uniform, while off duty.

This policy is set for implementation in keeping with the projected legalization date for such substances set forth by statute.

In the interest of transparency, the appropriate sections of the Timmins Police Service’s Internal Policies and its Standard Operating Procedures pertinent to the off duty usage of cannabis by its members is quoted as follows.

The lawful and responsible use of cannabis by employees (Timmins Police Service) is permitted while off duty, subject to the following:

All members of the Timmins Police Service are prohibited from using cannabis within twenty four (24) hours of reporting for duty.

The above off duty prohibitions notwithstanding, employees must, at all times, be fit for duty and unimpaired by cannabis while on duty.

In the interest of clarity, the Timmins Police Service in no way endorses, advocates, recommends, or encourages the use of such substances by its members, civilian or uniform.

The priority with the Timmins Police Service is focused on a safe and effective workplace for all its members and to provide and maintain professional ethics in keeping with its commitment to the efficient delivery of policing services.
