The streets are going to be colorful in Downtown Timmins this Sunday, with three colors in particular. Green, white and red will be the main colors on display as Timmins celebrates it’s only Italian street party.

Fiesta Italiana is coming back to Timmins this weekend with lots in store for kids and families.

The free event is open to everyone in Timmins and the surrounding area residents. There will be live entertainment, kid’s activities, Urban Market vendors, an outdoor patio, and lots and lots of Italian food.

Hosted by the Porcupine Dante Club, Festa Italiana 2018 takes place this Sunday, July 29th, rain or shine. The massive street party in downtown Timmins will be going from noon to 8 PM on Sunday.

On Thursday, Mayor Steve Black and members of the Porcupine Dante Club were at City Hall for a flag raising celebrating the Italian food party.

Chris Loreto, one of the directors of the Porcupine Dante Club, says he’s hoping this street party becomes an annual event.

“This is our second Festa Italiana,” he said, “and we want this to be an annual occurrence. And so, it’s an Italian street party to celebrate the Italian culture and to share that with the people of Timmins.”

The Italian street party will take place on Cedar St. from First Ave. to just before the Fire Hall, and there will be plenty of activities for kids and families. There will be inflatables, laser tag, rock climbing walls, mini putt and wax hands for kids to have fun with, and its all free.

Admission is free for the entire event, and there will be a stage set up for Italian music and dancing. The Downtown Urban market vendors will also be downtown selling their food. There will also be Italian food throughout the day available for festival goers.

There’s also an Italian dinner people can buy tickets for, starting at noon on Sunday. The dinner takes place at 6 PM Sunday evening, and tickets are limited (only 400 available). The Festival is donating proceeds from this event to the Living Space.

There will be lots of booths at the festival, selling tickets for a trip to Italy, T-shirts and more. Plus, there will be a spaghetti eating contest at 5 PM.

“It’ll be just a great day to pretend you’re Italian,” said Loreto, “to know an Italian, to eat Italian, to sing Italian and to act Italian. So it’ll be loud, it’ll be festive, it’ll be fun. And you should go home a few pounds heavier.”
