**OPP NEWS RELEASE**


 On April 22, 2018, at approximately 3:25 a.m., members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), attempted to stop a vehicle on Spruce Grove Road in Englehart, Ontario. The driver sped away from police and was located a short time after on Suttons Road, in the Municipality of Charlton-Dack, Ontario.

The 26-year-old male driver, Benjamin GOWLETT of Englehart, Ontario, was arrested and charged for:

 

  • Drive while ability impaired, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (C.C.),
  • Drive with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the C.C.,
  • Flight while pursued by peace officer, contrary to section 249.1(1) of the C.C., and
  • Possession of a schedule III substance, contrary to section 4(1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (C.D.S.A.).

 

The vehicle was towed from the scene and the accused was released by way of Promise to Appear (PTA). He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on May 1, 2018, in Haileybury, Ontario.
