Alexie Dallaire-Vincent is believed to be the first woman killed in an underground mine in Ontario.

Now, the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services is announcing an inquest into the events surrounding her death on May 23, 2015.

The 22-year old was working underground at the St. Andrew’s Goldfields Mine and was involved in a “rail haulage accident.”

An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.

The inquest will be held in a Timmins courtroom—on Spruce North—beginning Thursday, November 9th. It’s expected to last about two days, and around five witnesses are anticipated.

Dr. David Cameron will preside as inquest coroner.
