NEONet is getting $254,200 in Ontario Trillium Foundation funding to teach seniors about technology.

It’s one of 114 organizations that were chosen to “build stronger communities, to expand and improve on their programs and services,” according to a press release.

It goes on to say the project will “improve the digital literacy, educate and empower seniors to connect with family, friends, caregivers, social economic services and help them to be more connected using the Internet and mobile technologies.”

“The program will consist of delivering information and workshops throughout our catchment which covers from Hearst to Temiskaming Shores, including Cochrane and Iroquois Falls, up to Foleyet and Gogama and the James Bay Coast. The goal of the project is to teach and assist seniors to leverage the Internet and mobile devices to increase their connections around them.”

NEOnet’s project will take place over a 24-month period, and the plan is to hire new staff and train volunteers to help achieve goals within this program.
