While most eyes will be on Team Canada’s quest for a World Junior Championship here at home, a local pro will lace up at the Spengler Cup in Switzerland.

Timmins’ own Mark Katic has officially been added to the Team Canada roster.

The 27-year old has spent the last three plus seasons with Zagreb Medvescak in the KHL.

Katic was originally a third round pick of the New York Islanders in 2007 and registered one assist in his NHL debut back in the 2010-11 season.  He didn’t stick with the team and eventually took his talents overseas.

Canada will begin play on Boxing Day against HC Dinamo Minsk at 2:15pm Timmins time.

Canada is also the defending champion.
