The OPP are updating the public on the single vehicle collision near Hearst.

On November 6, 2016, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Hearst Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and the Cochrane District Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were advised of a motor vehicle collision on Champlain Road in Abbott Township, south/east of the Town of Hearst.

Police investigation revealed that three males in a pickup truck were travelling west bound on Champlain Road when the single motor vehicle collision occurred.

The two passengers of the motor vehicle were transported to a local hospital. One has been treated and released, however, the other remains in serious condition at a local hospital.

Meantime, on November 2, 2016 at 2:08 p.m.,  the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) conducted a traffic stop on Highway 11, approximately 20 kilometres south of Matheson.

The investigation revealed the driver, Tjeripo Tjituri, 44, of Ottawa, had consumed alcohol over the legal limit.  He was charged with Driving while ability impaired – motor vehicle (alcohol) contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.  He was released on a Promise to Appear and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on November 3, 2016.

Furthermore, on November 3, 2016 at 8:52 p.m., the OPP conducted a sobriety check on Highway 11, north of Matheson after police observed the vehicle swerving.

The driver, Connie Cox, 48, of Matheson was subsequently charged with Driving while Ability Impaired – motor vehicle (drug) contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code.  She was later released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins on December 6, 2016.

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of alcohol consumption when driving.  Call a friend or call a taxi.   Anyone who suspects a driver of driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
