boreal apprenticeship

As of August 1, 2016, Collège Boréal will offer the Motive Power Trades pre-apprenticeship program at its Sudbury and Timmins campuses.

The 29-week program allows participants to complete introductory courses before making a career choice in the motive power industry. These courses touch on automotive mechanic techniques, including heavy-duty equipment and truck and coach maintenance, as well as welding techniques.

The program also consists of an 8-week work placement.

To be eligible, participants must be 16 years or older and reside in Ontario. There is no cost to enroll, thanks to financing from the Ontario government.

The program also offers a high school equivalency test, as it is a requirement for an apprenticeship.

For more information on this pre-apprenticeship program, please contact 705-560-6673, ext. 3335 (Sudbury) or ext. 5515 (Timmins).

You can also join them Wednesday, July 13th from 3pm to 6pm for an “open door,” where officials will be available to answer questions.

Only nine people will be accepted for the program.

“The motive power industry requires highly trained professionals, says Boreal President Pierre Riopel, “This pre-apprenticeship program allows participants to learn some basic concepts while developing their job skills and trade readiness prior to finding work as apprentices or joining the labour force.”
