General Motors is putting forward a big investment for the future, one that will expand the automaker’s engineering and software development work in Ontario, create jobs and grow the economy.

Among the investments is a hefty $10-million contribution to upgrade their cold-testing centre just outside Kapuskasing.

Mayor Al Spacek says it really speaks to the value GM has on the facility.  Spacek says the upgrades have been underway for quite some time.

“They’re doing a number of different improvements to the area, their test-track, cold buildings, etc,” he said, “It’s quite a range of investments and upgrades that are going on.”

GM has been testing vehicles in the Kapuskasing area since the 1940’s, with a major investment for the current facility put forward in the 1970’s.

According to a release, GM is also enhancing the capabilities of its renamed Canadian Technical Centre in Oshawa to play a leading role in developing the next generation of connected, autonomous and alternative-fuel vehicles.  As well, they’re creating a major software development centre in Markham.
