The Timmins and District Hospitals is approaching the end of their four year campaign for upgrading, and the generosity of one community partner has not slowed down.

At the Annual Spring Gala, a $500,000 cheque was presented to the the TADH on behalf of Goldcorp Porcupine Gold Mines. This contribution brought their total donations to the hospital $1.5 million.

“As a major employer in the city of Timmins, we know that many of our employees and their families depend on services at Timmins and District Hospital,” said Bryan Neeley, Sustainability Manager at Goldcorp. “Supporting our Hospital is essentially about supporting our families and that’s what makes this community partnership a perfect fit for Goldcorp.”

The four year campaign is to make improvements to the John P. Larche Medical Imaging and Cardiopulmonary Department.

“This remarkable contribution from Goldcorp to help fund a new MRI machine brings our capital campaign total to just over $12.5 million in this last year of our four-year campaign,” Janna Burke, TADH Foundation Executive Director said.

MRI machines are used to take detailed images of the body used to diagnose and in turn treat diseases, and the machine in Timmins will be at the end of it’s life span by the end of 2016. In 2015 alone, the MRI was used 9,994 times.

The cost of an MRI machine can cost anywhere from $150,000-$3 million USD and the room it is housed in is twice as expensive.

TADH is the largest hospital in Northeastern Ontario and is the district hospital for over 115 thousand people. Staff are working to revitalize the Hospital and bring it into the 21st century.
