kidsportIt’s not even April, but low-income families are already coming out in droves to the Kidsport Timmins office.

Chair Colleen Landers says they’re already halfway through the $55,000 earmarked for families in 2016.

She says it is best to register for the funds early, as the process takes over a couple weeks and want parents to be ready—with money in hand—to put their child into their favourite sport later this summer or early fall.

“(People) tend to forget and think they can wait ’till September to apply for the winter sports, and by then it’s typically almost too late,” she said.

Landers says their office is open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30am until 1pm, and will be closing for the summer.

She says families looking to register must bring Notice of Assessment from the 2015 tax season.

Qualified families must make less than:

  • $27,000 a year (one child)
  • $31,000 a year (two children)
  • $36,000 a year (three children)
  • $40,000 a year (four children)

Landers is also thanking the Timmins Rock for allowing them to hold the Chuck-a-Puck contest during the 1st intermission of each home game.  Kidsport raised around $6,000 because of the initiative.
