NO RUNNING WATER

Premier Kathleen Wynne is looking for a solution to boil water advisories in aboriginal communities — MPP Gilles Bisson says it’s about time.

“This is more of the same from her.  She wants to be seen as doing the right thing but quite frankly has not done much to resolve the problems over the years.”

Wynne is raising the issue of safer drinking water at the First Minister’s meetings this week in Vancouver where territorial and provincial ministers meet with Prime Minster, Justin Trudreau.

112 communities in the country are under some kind of water advisory with 79 in Ontario alone.
Bisson says the premier’s known about his for years and can’t act surprised now. He says the province’s can’t keep ignoring the problem because it’s part of the federal government’s mandate.

“Why not sit down with the government and figure out some sort of cost sharing arrangement by which we make sure water infrastructure is on par with other communities in Ontario.”
