gavelThe longtime Timmins councillor and former Mayor Mike Doody said it best, as the Timmins Police Board look to explore options to move the courthouse out of the 101 Mall.

Police Chief John Gauthier echoed his sentiments, saying he doesn’t believe the set up is “adequate for safely transporting and handling prisoners.”

The court has long been on the 2nd floor in the downtown building.  The convenience for some lawyers to walk over to the nearby location could be a tipping point against relocation, but the board had a unanimous decision to find a new place to hold court.

Much will have to be done to achieve the goal.  The Board will look to gain support from government entities at Queen’s Park, and throughout the Northeast.

The Timmins court serves many smaller communities in the region.
