Heavy equipment students at Northern College in Timmins have a leg up on their competition thanks to Dumas Mining Contractors.

The company is donating $65,000 in heavy equipment to the campus including three mine tractors and two scissor lifts.  The equipment will be used by Heavy Equipment Techniques and Motive Power Technician students and heavy equipment apprentices.

Wayne Mohns from Dumas says this partnership is a great fit for them and the school.

“An educated workforce with high-skills training is essential for the continued success of our industries and communities.  By providing this donation, we’re helping to ensure local heavy equipment students graduate with in-depth experience working with the same kinds of equipment used in the mining industry.”

College President, Fred Gibbons says he’s thankful the mining company is this generous and is a shining example of how they can increase the quality of education for students.

Heavy equipment students will start using the equipment come September.
