bridgeIFThe Abitibi Trestle Bridge remains closed, but residents in Iroquois Falls are banding together to open it back up again.

Resolute Forestry closed the bridge last summer, amid safety concerns and them not needing to use it for their business any more.

Mayor Michael Shea says with summer approaching, there are plenty of camping, boating and fishing options on the other side and would like things to return to normal.

“We’ve been attached at the hip bone with that bridge for the last 50-60 years,” he said.

Residents are gathering for a bonfire at Earl Porter Lanes in Iroquois Falls Friday night from 5:00-10:00pm in support of committee efforts to get the bridge open.

“We seem so lost without that bridge as it is now,” Shea said.
